The beginning...
It's early on a Monday morning. The day had started like any other day. You woke up late, showered, skipped breakfast, and hurried into work, frustrated by the traffic that you know would not have been such a big deal had you been on time this morning. You arrive at work, and walk into your first meeting of the day. It doesn't take long before you realize that you are about to be assigned the task of designing a new online version of one of the most popular courses at your school. During the meeting, your administrator assigns you the task of designing this new online course to include social media, implement OER, utilize multimedia in all of the lessons, and find ways for students to use the new cloud tools. She finishes her talk by saying, "oh yeah, it will be important for students to access the new course on their smartphone or tablet." Her sense of urgency is clear but at least she's giving you almost a month to present the new course design. However, that month will go by quickly!
It weighs on your mind all day. You search the web where it seems there are a thousand ideas, a thousand ways to do the same thing, and a thousand reasons that all thousands of these things are not the right thing to do. Social media? Flash vs. HTML5? Video Production? Audio Production? These things all seem like they're going to require a huge budget, which you don't have.
You work late that night, but feel even more confused about your task than when you started researching. Frustrated and worried, you leave work and drive home. It is a beautiful evening, so you decide to stop by the beach and walk along the ocean. Maybe you'll find some wisdom there...
