This Tutorial is intended to brief members of the Maricopa community on recent changes to federal law regarding statements that a College’s representatives might make about the school’s educational program, financial charges, and employability of graduates. The nature of these changes might make one afraid to say anything of substance about a College’s particular program out of fear of making a misrepresentation. Such a reaction—while understandable—would be mistaken.
Students—both current and future - are eager to know all they can about everything a College has to offer, and school representatives should not be reluctant to give students the requested information. The purpose of these laws, then, is to make sure that students and the public at large receive the correct information in what the US Department of Education calls a “simple and meaningful manner.”
