After You Submit Your FAFSA
This topic focuses on the process of what happens after you submit your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
Your Aid Request is Reviewed
Rio Salado College's Financial Aid Office is required to process your request for federal student aid using all applicable polices and regulations established by the U.S. Department of Education (ED), the State of Arizona, the Maricopa County Community College District and all other regulatory bodies.
Processing Time
After you have completed all of your To Do List items, it may take up to three weeks to process your financial aid package. This step usually takes the longest due to the large amount of applications the office receives.
When your financial aid package is ready, you will receive a Financial Aid Notification (FAN) email from the Financial Aid Office in your official student email.
You May be Asked to Verify Information
The ED is required by federal regulations to select some FAFSAs for verification. The ED selects approximately 30% of all students who complete the FAFSA for verification. If you are asked to verify your information, don't panic! Learn about the verification process.
Know Your Rights and Responsibilities
It is your responsibility as a federal student aid recipient to know and understand your responsibilities and the terms and conditions of your financial aid.
Cost of Attendance
Each year Rio Salado's Financial Aid Office establishes standard student budgets based on institutional costs and estimated costs of living. These budgets represent an estimate of the Cost of Attendance (COA) for Rio Salado College’s distance learning programs. The amount of aid that you receive as a student cannot be more than the institution’s COA.
