Post Baccalaureate Teacher Certification (For those who possess a bachelor’s degree)
Rio Salado College’s Educator Preparation Program is an Arizona State Department of Education approved provider for various levels of teacher certification. The pathways are designed to be affordable and provide the necessary flexibility to meet the needs of adult learners who are juggling work, family, and extracurricular activities. Courses are offered in an online format and are blended with in-person field experiences, student teaching, and possibly full-time employment.
There are two Post Bacc program models available for candidates that lead to certification in one of the following areas: Elementary K-8, Secondary 6-12, Early Childhood preK-3rd, Special Education Mild to Moderate, and Arts PreK-12 (Dance, Drama, Art and Theater).
- Traditional Pathway: Flexible program offering which allows for completion of the certificate requirements at the teacher candidate’s pace, incorporates in-person field work and a culminating full-time student teaching experience
- Teacher in Residence (TIR) Pathway: Highly structured cohort model available only when the teacher candidate has been recommended by an Arizona school system for employment as a teacher of record. The pathway allows teacher candidates to complete student teaching as part of the employment commitment while simultaneously completing the required academic coursework for certification.
