In a new video presentation, Rio Salado College President Kate Smith outlined three key areas of effort from the college to serve a growing nontraditional student population: flexibility, listening to learners and expanding access. The video was created for the Presidents Forum, an organization of higher education leadership and leading education stakeholders “committed to reinventing higher education for our diverse student population.” Smith serves as a governing board member for the organization and is one of its founding members.

In the video, Smith shares that by offering 24/7 online access, multiple start dates, and comprehensive student support services, Rio aims to remove barriers that may prevent students from pursuing post-secondary education.

“I will tell you that Rio Salado College, since 1978 when we opened our doors, this has been our mission,” Smith states in the video.
