Next week, Rio Salado College and the Maricopa Community College Foundation will be celebrating its fourth annual Be a Student’s Hero fundraising campaign that seeks to provide funding for student scholarships and student life programming. The College is hoping to collect donations from 50 donors this year.
This year’s priorities are the Melody Layne Miller Memorial Scholarship fund and the Student Life Fund, which can help students take part in organizations, said Todd Aakhus with Rio Salado’s Development, Scholarship and Alumni Relations.
“The Be a Student’s Hero campaign is a districtwide effort to raise funds for student scholarships. We all focus on the same goal, to provide scholarship dollars that can be awarded through the Maricopa Community College Foundation and highlight students’ community college experience to the Valley,” Aakhus said.

Donors and friends of the College can share news about the campaign through social media using #IAMAHERO and the College’s tags. April is also National Community College Month, a time to bring awareness to the value of America’s more than 1,200 community colleges. To learn more, email Todd Aakhus at Todd.Aakhus@riosalado.edu.
