Congratulations Kate Smith and Janelle Alias for being recognized as Top 50 Women Leaders in Phoenix by Women We Admire

Rio Salado President Kate Smith and Vice President Janelle Elias have been recognized by Women We Admire as part of the “Top 50 Women Leaders in Phoenix”. This recognition highlights their dedication, leadership, and impact in education, as well as the community.

Women We Admire is a national organization committed to celebrating the achievements of female leaders across various industries. From education and business to healthcare and law, the organization spotlights women who have made significant contributions in their fields. Each year, they recognize women who embody excellence, leadership, and an unwavering commitment to making a difference. Kate Smith and Janelle Elias exemplify these values in their roles at our college.

“It’s an incredible honor to be recognized alongside so many inspiring women,” said President Kate Smith. “At Rio Salado College, our focus has always been on making education accessible and impactful. This recognition is a testament to our collective efforts to empower students to reach their full potential."

"I am deeply humbled by this recognition,” said Vice President Janelle Elias, who leads the divisions of Academic Affairs and Strategy and Advancement. “This honor is a direct reflection of the amazing team we have at Rio Salado College and the communities we serve in Tempe, Maricopa County and beyond. Together, we are committed to creating pathways for success and supporting the next generation of learners, earners, and leaders."

In addition to their leadership at the college, Smith and Elias take on active roles in the community of Tempe, Maricopa County, and in higher education initiatives across the country.

Smith serves as a co-chair of the education committee for the Arizona-Mexico Commission; is a member of the Presidents Forum Governing Board, and serves on the Maricopa County Community College District Foundation, Friends of Public Radio Arizona Board, and Tempe Chamber of Commerce Boards.

Elias currently serves as a Maricopa Leadership Institute Mentor, as well as on WGU Labs - College Innovation Network Advisory Board, the HLC Annual Conference Advisory Committee and the Tempe Chamber Women in Business Council.

As we celebrate these achievements, we are reminded of the power of education and the importance of strong, visionary leadership.
