If you’re a Rio Salado College student living outside of Maricopa County, you can still take your exams conveniently with an approved proctor. This guide will walk you through the process of submitting a Proctor Request Form and provide useful tips to ensure a smooth testing experience.
How will I Know if I Have to Take an In-person Exam?
You may learn whether a class has an in-person midterm and final exam on the class page in RioLearn or in your syllabus. If an in-person exam and proctor is required, the Proctor Request Form must be completed within the first week of your class start date.
Step 1: Locate a proctor
Most proctors charge a fee for their services and you are responsible for paying any applicable charges. Acceptable proctors must meet the following criteria:
University/College
If the proctor is at a university or college, s/he must be an employee of the testing center. If there is no testing center, the proctor must work in Distance Learning, Advising, Counseling, Assessment, Disability Resources, or the Library.
Military Base
If the proctor is at a military base; s/he must work at the Education Center. The proctor will be the Test Administrator or Test Control Officer at the installation (base, camp, Kaserne, COB, FOB) education center where you are stationed.
Proctors must be from an accredited university, accredited college, or military base.
There must be no conflict of interest in having your proctor administer your exams.
If you have a college/university near your area, please contact them to confirm that they have proctoring services and gather their contact information to fill out your Proctor Request Form. The following list may be used as a tool to locate NCTA approved college testing centers; however, if your institution/school is not listed, don't worry! This is just a tool to help you look. Please be aware that Rio Salado College works with many proctors outside of this list.
Step 2: Submit your Proctor Request Form
After selecting a proctor, you’re ready to fill out the Proctor Request Form. Here’s how:
- Read thoroughly once you open up the form. Fill in all required fields, including your proctor’s information, your course details, and submit.
- Proctor Request Form
You must submit a separate request form for every course that requires a proctored exam. If your course has a midterm and final exam, we will send both tests at the same time and you only need to submit one request.
Step 3: Once the proctor is approved
Exams are sent to proctors within 7 days of the proctor's confirmation. However, the entire process can take up to 3 weeks. We will send you an email to your student email (MEID@maricopa.edu) confirming that the tests have been sent to your proctor. If the proctor is not approved, we will send you an email indicating that you need to locate a new proctor.
Step 4: Contact your proctor to schedule your exam appointment
Set an appointment date/time to take your exam(s) and pay any applied proctoring fees. Remember to have a valid physical photo ID and any permitted materials for the exam.
Step 5: After the examination
The proctor will return the testing materials and you will receive your grade from your instructor.
