Overview
The Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act (20 USC ยง 1092(f)), originally the "Campus Security Act," is the landmark federal law requiring colleges and universities in the U.S. to disclose information about crime on and around their campuses. Institutions are mandated to publish an annual report disclosing campus security policies and three years' worth of selected crime statistics.
They are additionally mandated to make timely warnings to the campus community about crimes posing an ongoing threat to students and employees. Each institution with a police or security department must have a public crime log.
The U.S. Department of Education (ED) collects and disseminates these crime statistics. Sexual assault victims in the campus community are assured certain basic rights.
