Biology Courses with Prerequisites
Thank you for your interest in Rio Salado College's online Biology courses! BIO156, BIO201, BIO202, and BIO205 require prerequisite coursework in order to enroll. For BIO201 and BIO205, we recommend that your General Biology class (equivalent to BIO156 or BIO181) be no more than 5 years old.
If your General Biology course was successfully completed more than 5 years ago, we encourage you to complete the proficiency test by selecting the button below to ensure that you are prepared for the rigors of BIO201 and/or BIO205. The proficiency test will help you identify specific topics you may need to review prior to enrolling. The 30-minute test consists of 30 multiple choice questions based on course competencies of a General Biology course.
If you have not already registered with Maricopa County Community College, please navigate to the following website to become a student and to obtain your MEID. Once you have your MEID, you may sit for the test.
Please note that you will need to be signed into your Maricopa email to access the test. To avoid technical errors, be sure to clear your cache, log into your Maricopa account and use Google Chrome.
If you earn a score of 21 or higher, this indicates you have an adequate foundational knowledge of Biology concepts. Please note that the topics on the proficiency test are 'expected knowledge' in BIO201 and/or BIO205 courses.
If you earn a score of 20 or lower, the Biology Department strongly encourages you to consider taking BIO156 to ensure you have the foundational knowledge needed to be successful in BIO201 and/or BIO205.
Rio Salado College looks forward to welcoming you to our online Biology courses!
